RELEASING THE BLESSING OVER THE ZIMBABWE

The Challenge

The COVID-19 pandemic took a big toll on people and society with its effects like financial challenges, substance abuse, declining mental health, growing despair, suspension of education, and rise in unemployment as some businesses shut down. It was at that time that Sasai saw the need to release a blessing over Zimbabwe by partnering with Dicomm and Zimbabwean musicians to spread a message of hope, through our own rendition of the song “The Blessing”.

Execution

As the same initiative was growing popular in different parts of the world, client felt that Zimbabwe also needed a voice of lifting, to inspire hope in such perilous times. The musicians felt called to this work and were up to the task. In no time, celebrity voices like Selmor Mtukudzi, Willis Watafi and Trevor Dongo dumbfounded their audience. Sharing the stage with stars like Storm, Mellisa Makwasha, Chelsea Mguni, Anne Selberg, Tariro Negitare, MacDee, Dr Tatenda and well known gospel artistes like Tembalami and Pastor G delivered beyond expectation. Sir Albert Nyati did poetic justice and Sulumani sang a distinct sungura hymnal as Tendai Manatsa’s melody stirred emotions. In just three days and very late nights, the track and video were produced.

Results

Within minutes of posting, social media was abuzz with positive comments and responses. Powered by Sasai TeamTalk, shot, edited, and produced in-house, the Zimbabwean cover of “The Blessing” has now amassed over 850,000 organic views on YouTube, with reach beyond Africa including Australia, the United States, and Europe. The hashtag #TheBlessingZW tracked over 3 million impressions in 1 week! The highlight of this assignment was getting a rubber stamp from Pastor Steven Furtick, the co-writer of the original song who expressed how he felt about the Zim cover by saying, “Incredible” with two heart emoticons.
